Read moreDo hearing aids make your hearing worse? This is a question that many people wonder about when considering hearing aids. And, it’s a fair question. Because, after all, hearing aids do make sounds louder. The good news though is that hearing aids are generally safe. Here’s how.Modern hearing aids have what we call automatic volume control. They amplify different volumes of input differently. Soft sounds like whispers get a lot of boost.Mid volume sounds, like normal speech, gets some boost.Louder sounds, like shouts, get a little bit of boost. And, a jet engine type of sound would get NO boost. In summary, hearing aids don’t make sound dangerously loud. BUT, they are also NOT hearing protection. They don’t make dangerously loud sound quieter. So, if you’re running power equipment, you still should be wearing hearing protection like ear plugs or ear muffs.I hope that helps clarify how hearing aids are a safe boost to the sounds you may be missing.
