I had my own tipping point a few years ago with my personal health. I had known for some time that I wanted to lose a few pounds and be more active. This awareness had been creeping up on me for nearly a decade. I would think about it from time to time, but never really made a serious commitment.
One day, I was out playing soccer with my son. After only a few minutes, I was huffing and puffing as he sailed around the field effortlessly. I couldn’t help but think, "I can't even keep up with my own child." This became a tipping point where I said to myself, "Listen, it's time to do something about this." I went on to hire a personal trainer and make some real changes.
This scenario is similar for people with hearing loss. Many know for a long time that something's not right. They feel they need to get a hearing test. They might get reminders from loved ones and friends. They find themselves asking people to repeat frequently, sometimes missing the punchline on a joke, and so on. And then comes the tipping point.
That one event where a person with hearing loss sticks their foot in their mouth so to speak because of a misunderstanding due to hearing loss. These types of events can be the catalyst that causes a person to make a commitment to improving their hearing. The Holiday Season is a time ripe with hearing loss tipping point potential. Parties, family functions, eating out, and other such gatherings are all opportunities for being reminded about the need to take action. I really want to encourage you, if this Holiday Season becomes a tipping point for you in your hearing journey, we are here to help! While it may feel like a big step, it really is quite easy to start.
We have two hearing tests. The first is the technical one in the office which is painless.
The second is our practical hearing test where you wear demonstration hearing devices at home for a week or two. This helps us evaluate how important hearing improvement is for you at this point in time. Regardless of when we have the privilege to meet you, we wish you a wonderful festive season and encourage you to watch for any hearing tipping points.
